Project film of the Central Asian Desert Initiative (CADI)

Conservation and sustainable use of cold winter deserts

The cold winter deserts of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are among the regions of Central Asia that are of global importance for the conservation of biodiversity and, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, can claim the status of world heritage sites. And these territories are the target countries of the Central Asia Desert Initiative. The initiative aims to conserve and ensure the sustainable use of temperate deserts, which are unique ecosystems of global importance.

FAO, the State Forestry Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan together with the University of Greifswald and the Michael Succow Foundation, were organizing the first International Conference on Cold Winter Deserts in Tashkent. There the project film was shown and presented as a CADI project film. The film clip focuses mainly on Uzbekistan and was commissioned by FAO.
