Annual Report 2025: Preserving Nature. Shaping the Future.

What gives us hope at a time when the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and the water balance of our landscapes are under increasing pressure?

For us, it is the many people who come together to protect nature. People who take responsibility, share knowledge, explore new paths and show that nature, peatland and climate protection are both necessary and possible.

Our new 2025 Annual Report takes you on a journey through our work in Germany and around the world: to rewetted peatlands in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Estonia, across the vast landscapes of Mongolia, to Central Asia and many other places.In 2025, together with our partners, we:

  • advanced the nomination of the Mongolian Gobi for UNESCO World Heritage status,
  • reached an important milestone for peatland rewetting and climate protection with the start of construction in the Sernitz peatland,
  • hydrologically restored 800 hectares of the Leidissoo peatland in Estonia,
  • strengthened protected areas and international conservation partnerships,
  • and developed new approaches to sustainable land use and paludiculture.

The Annual Report is therefore more than a review of the past year. It shows what becomes possible when people work together. And it makes visible the concrete impact of nature conservation – for peatlands and climate, for biodiversity, for landscapes and for future generations.
