20 Years of the Eva-Kleinn-Scholarship – Gratitude for an Extraordinary Commitment

Twenty years ago, the Eva Kleinn Scholarship was established by her family in memory of Eva Kleinn. It enabled the Michael Succow Foundation to work in Eva’s spirit and to support young, committed individuals in their engagement for nature conservation, sustainable development, and international cooperation.

Over two decades, the scholarship not only made research possible but also created a living legacy – driven by hope, initiative, and trust in young people. Thanks to the financial and personal support of the donors, numerous scholarship recipients were able to broaden their academic horizons, build international networks, and make tangible contributions to nature conservation in their home countries. Many have described how formative this period was for their future paths and often accompanied by a strong determination to take responsibility and make a difference, even under challenging circumstances.

The impact of the Eva-Kleinn-Scholarship is reflected in a wide range of achievements: contributions to the creation of new biosphere reserves, participation in international conservation processes, involvement in World Heritage nominations, as well as long-term roles in political and institutional positions by former fellows. What began 20 years ago as support for people has grown over the years into a sustainable and far-reaching legacy.

That the family supported this work over two decades with dedication, trust, and thoughtful guidance fills us with deep gratitude. With the conclusion of the scholarship, a special chapter of support comes to an end.

The Eva Kleinn Scholarship is and will remain part of our foundation’s history and serves to commemorate Eva.
